Hokey Smoke!

Sitting in my backyard, when a chipmunk bounces off the phone line and onto a tree trunk. Except the phone line is seven feet in the air, and they never go that high. I believe it was a flying squirrel.
Never saw one of them in the wild before.

  1. Keep your eye out for a Moose, and beware of strangers with russian accents.

  2. “. . .they never go that high.” Are you sure about that? I’ve seen a chipmunk on the roof of our (single storey) house. It’s amazing where those little critters can go. Of course, if it really was a flying squirrel, Glen’s comment applies.

  3. My uncle’s chimney ends up having us meet a flying squirrel at least once a yr. One of the poor buggers will get trapped under the flue and need to be rescued. Right about this time of yr actually. We have learned the knack for opening up the iron fireplace door and catching the little ones in a plastic tupperware container. Also lets us get a good look at them up close before we let them go (far away from where we let out the dogs at nite.)

All this to say: aren’t they cool? and their wingspan can be amazing!
