Is This A Good Idea?

Via Breda, I learn of this:  Queer the Census. Gee.  Giving an entity with a huge budget and a whole bunch of agents trained in the use of force a list of historically persecuted people?  What  couldn’t possibly ever go wrong with that?   And didn’t someone try this, like eighty years ago?  Joe Huffman has something to say about that.

  1. Like we did the last time, my wife and I will answer the bare minimum WE think is appropriate and mark the rest “NA” if at all.

There were all sorts of wild stories what would happen if you didn’t complete the census form. Didn’t happen. I expect it’ll be the same this time.

  2. Census takers are trained in the use of force? Am I missing something here?

    • Census takers aren’t trained in the use of force. But the government has loads of people under arms, from the military to law enforcement, to people you wouldn’t think of like park rangers, and IRS agents, THEY have the guns. The only thing the government really does well is using force against…well…the rest of the world.

You seriously think the Obama administration is going to launch an all-out attack against gays?

    • Obama administration? Probably not. Unless the powers that be decide it is in their best interest, which could happen. But the Obama administration will be finite. Also, those records are prepared with public money, they are therefore PUBLIC records. Available with a FOIA request to anyone. I can’t think of a good reason why that information is needed by anyone in a governmental capacity.

  5. I’d rather be optimistic for my country, and have some faith in my fellow Americans that they wouldn’t decide to railroad me to my death. In a democracy, the whole point is to stand up and be counted, isn’t it?

    • Faith in the Country and Americans is very different from having faith in the Government, of which I have very little.
