A Bleg

I have reached the limits of my Google-fu.  I’m looking for a photo of one of the evil henchmen from the Adam West Batman movie (1966), to duplicate the costume.  I’ve always wanted henchmen…ANYway.

As I recall it, there was a grey or black flat cap, black cloth eyemask, black and white horizontally striped shirt with the word “henchman” written on it, black pleated trousers and black shoes (that looked like jazz shoes).  Or I’m making things up.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, please do it in the comments.

  1. On the IMDB entry there is a preview for the movie, and there are a few shots of henchmen in it. However, the quality is not very high, at least on my computer, and I’m not sure they are the ones you’re describing.

  2. Sir,

For $2.99, you can download the movie from here for reference:

By the way, if I remember correctly it was a gray newsboy cap, black cloth eye mask, white and black prison striped shirt and black pants.

  3. My google-fu has flopped as well. However, a couple of interesting things.

Here ( http://dailypop.wordpress.com/2007/07/25/batman-1989/ )is a page for the 1989 movie. There’s a black and white photo of the Joker and his henchmen that seems to be similar to what you’re describing. Possibly an homage to the earlier costumes?

Also, while I don’t have time to search it thoroughly, here ( http://www.66batman.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?board=board ) is a message board devoted to the 1966 Batman movie. You might be able to find something there.

As it’s been released on VHS, DVD, and BluRay over the years, your best bet might be to find someone with a digital copy of the film, and have them do a screen capture for you with the henchmen.

    Good luck!

  5. I don’t know about the costume, but here are some really useful rules for evil henchmen (and others) form John Van Sickle: http://www.thalia.org/henchman.html

  6. I think you’re confusing the Hamburglar with the Joker’s henchmen. http://www.level10crossfit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/hamburglar.jpg

    “I’ve always wanted henchmen…”

    Yeah, I’ve always wanted minions.
