Why isn’t this known?

A ceremony you don’t read about in the newspapers. I’ve stopped wondering why.   A teaser:

The  temperature is rising already.  Nobody  cares.  “10:36 hours: The clapping starts  at the E-Ring.  That is the outermost of  the five rings of the Pentagon and it is closest  to the entrance to the building.  This  clapping is low, sustained, hearty.  It is  applause with a deep emotion behind it as it  moves forward in a wave down the length of the hallway.

The full story is here. Hat tip, LEX.

  1. Ah but we know about Tiger Woods. As someone noted tonight on Larry King, “The president is sending 30,000 troops to Afghanistan but Americans care more about Tiger Woods.”

I don’t know if they do care. They are told to care about Woods. I know that talking about infidelity sells more soap and laxatives and Viagra and insurance and tampons than wars or war wounded or war dead. We could use a little more dignity and honor and a lot less popular culture. a

We don’t have priorities. We have sponsored lives.

Pardon me, I am grading and my students just didn’t know they could really fail my class. I got my b*tch on right now.
