Fr. Frank X. Klamet M.D.

Frank X. Klamet 1952-2009 died of his heart condition last Sunday.  The obit is HERE. Frank and I were residents together.  I was his go-to guy for lab stuff, and he was my go-to guy for clinical information.  I knew heart disease ran in his family, but that didn’t slow him down.

Frank liked his work, and I always admired how he balanced his duties as a priest and as a physician.  He was very careful about what he did, and I knew it was difficult, but he was always very responsible.  He spent his last years doing high-risk OB in an underserved area in Southern Ohio, and teaching CWRU students.  There were no other doctors who were willing or able to practice in such a high-risk practice.  He joked that he was able to do it because “Amongst my weapons…” which I certainly wasn’t expecting.

He said he always said a Thanksgiving mass after every delivery.  I last saw him at a medical school graduation.  He was one of the good guys.

  1. Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. He was a year younger than I am… I guess we are getting old, whether we like it or not. Thoughts and prayers sent for the family.

  2. I am a medical assistant in the office that Dr. Klamet worked in, in southern Ohio. He was one of the best men I know to have ever walked the face of this earth. He was a great friend/teacher/colleague/doctor. He will be missed dearly, but never forgotten! We used to tease him about his crazy hours and that he was going to work himself to death…never thinking that it was closer than we all imagined. RIP Frank… as you always said to ever patient when you were finished seeing them… “You’re Beautiful..God Bless you”

  4. I chose Dr. Klamet as my physician because he went to Med School at Case…my son is an undergrad there and hopes to go to Med school, so he was the guy for me! I only saw him as a patient once, a few months following my husband’s death. I cannot express the deep compassion that I felt from him about my loss. His sincerity was real and touched me in a very deep way. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing and offer my sympathies to his many friends and family. It will be a huge loss to our community.

  5. Thank you for the kind words regarding our brother Frank. Just a small clarification: Frank was not a Jesuit, he was a Priest in the Diocese of Cleveland, Ohio.

    • He had S.J. on his name tag at the hospital, I thought that’s what that meant.
