Call For Limericks.

It’s that time again.  Please submit your limericks on a theme.  The winner gets a care package sent to a service member in harms way.  Remember a limerick is a five line poem in iambic pentameter with an a-a-b-b-a rhyme scheme.  This weeks theme is VOTE.

  1. Here’s some words that couldn’t be plainer:
look out for the pompous compaigner
    When the signs say beware!
    too many don’t care
and vote for an empty container.

  2. Across this great land we can note
    Inflated oratorical bloat,
    But our freedoms will perish
If this right we don’t cherish
So get to the polls now and VOTE!

  3. Erm, you might want to look up the limerick form and iambic pentameter, because limericks are um, usually anapests, no? And not pentameter. Sometimes there’s a feminine rhyme at the end of the long lines, especially, that gives the line ten syllables, but the stresses are anapests.

There once was a guy named Obama,
    Which isn’t the same as Osama;
    Despite what was said
    By some in states red,
It looked like he had some good karma.

(And now we all know why I teach and don’t write verse!)

  5. They said “get out and vote”
They said it, they sang it, they wrote
    So I took a stroll
    And submitted my poll
Now I feel like I’ve been butted by a goat

  6. I voted, though it was in vain
New York State is a blue one, it’s plain
but I walked in the booth
    pulled the lever for truth
And stood up for my lost cause — McCain!
