Can the white, war hero (with a wealthy wife) and a wealthy, white, professional, woman with an ivy-league education be calling the black guy elitist.

Of course, the black guy went to Harvard, after all. I think all three of these people flunk the “just folks” test.

  1. No sh**. I think that this is the first election I’ll be consulting my magic eight ball for choices. Or just voting for Ron Paul. Or perhaps I’ll simply begin construction on my small South Pacific island compound where I shall declare myself dictator for life.

  2. Are politicians ever “just folks”?

  3. All politicians, to some degree, are sociopathic narcissists. Certainly Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Harry Truman, Jimmy Carter, were of humble origins. Contrariwise George Washington was the richest man in America, and F.D.R. was old-line patrician stock, George W. Bush’s father was the president, for crying out loud.

Some Australian Prime Minister, I forget who attributed his success to his “just folks” manner–and he was a Rhodes Scholar.

  4. Ah yes, it is the great popularity contest year, isn’t it?

I think Ralph Nader was right when he said there should be a “none of the above” option. It’s certainly what I’m telling the pollsters when they call.

  5. Myself, I’m hoping for the “F*** alla youse!” lever, but I never find one.

  7. I’m surprised at how negative these comments are… like them or not I think ANY of the three candidates would be a colossal improvement over our current doofus in chief.

  8. I’m amazed that the candidates even try the “just folks” shuck-n-jive any more. They aren’t. We know that. Just tell me how you might make my life a little easier, and I’ll listen, mmmkay?

Steph — I did the Magic 8 ball 2 elections ago. It kept saying “Outlook not so good” over and over and over again. Aiiieee!

  9. Found you through Old NFO – wanted to say hello and to put my 2 cents into the mix…. If “just folks” ran the country, we’d be in serious trouble. The job of president requires much more than meat and potatoes, and we all know it. One can just take a look at any president after his term is up… he’s looking worn out. He’s been through the ringer! The President’s job description requires him to fulfill eight primary roles, dependent on the situation and the role needing expressed. In addition to the President’s position as chief executive, the President must also simultaneously act as the chief citizen, party chief, chief diplomat, chief legislator, chief of state, chief administrator, and the commander-in-chief. We need someone strong, intelligent, diplomatic, well… you get the idea. The man-in-charge is no ordinary human being, yet suffers the frailties of being human! I admit our choices this year are not what I consider to be the cream of the crop… but if anything can be said, they are indeed NOT “just folks”.
