A nice, well meaning person recently gave me an Uncle Mike’s size 15 8915-1 synthetic holster for 3 1/2-4″ barrel large automatic pistols and a right-handed individual. Unhappily, my 1911 is a full sized one. So:
1. Can anybody use this one? It’s new, but I can’t return it, I don’t know where it came from.
2. Anybody got a good reccomendation for a holster for a full-sized 1911?

You can’t beat a Milt Sparks VMII. They have a long wait, but you can get on the list at TopGunsupply.com and they’ll let you know when they get some in stock.
http://www.UBGholsters.com also makes a good holster with a much shorter wait time.

Holsters are very personal things.
It all depends on exactly what you carry (and it’s features), and where you wish to carry it.
For belt carry, I prefer a Galco JAK slide. It’s minimalistic, excellent quality, very comfortable, and has far better retention than it would appear to.
Now, depending on the situation, I also have a FOBUS paddle and a Maxpedition bag.
Best to try them on… or get used to the idea of having a box full of holsters as you buy new ones.
Maybe that’s why so many women have a drawer full of purses?

William, I use a Galco paddle to carry my full size Colt, another option is Don Hume, again a wait, but excellent quality. I also have a Yanqui slide from Galco. As carteach0 says, you’ve got to pick what you like. Having said that, since I haven’t procured a new holster for my Commando, I’d be interested in taking that Uncle Mikes off your hands.

You might want to look at Dave Workman’s holsters (D&D Gunleather). I have two of his IWB T-Bar 2 holsters for my Officer model 1911 and Kahr P45. His website is down at the moment, but he can be found at “Gun Week”. He’s one of the editors.
